About
Thanks to Bob Stinson, Ron Asheton, and Eric Bachman, John Velghe is a failed piano player — thanks to John Lennon, Alejandro Escovedo, and Paul Westerberg, he’s a songwriter.
Born in the midwestern United States, he picked up a guitar then became a songwriter and multi-instrumentalist (playing; guitar, drums, piano, accordion, vibraphones, rhodes, etc.) out of love for that paradox of abandon and unity.
When people ask Velghe (pronounced Vel-gee) who he studied under, he often responds “the American Masters.” They typically ask “Gershwin? Porter?” Velghe responds, “No. Wilson, Westerberg, Ellington, Escovedo and Osterberg (Brian, Paul, Duke, Alejandro and Iggy Pop, respectively).” Loosely translated, he has no academic musical training.
As an independent musician John has written, performed and toured the country in several bands including The Daybirds (managed through the Celine Dion Agency), Saint Jude, and famous fm. His songs have been released in North America and Europe. As a composer he has scored feature-length documentaries and short films.
He has produced and recorded projects for artists across all musical genres including rock bands like Down the Sun (Road Runner Records), hip hop artist Blydell (Lone Rider), and singer/songwriter Krystle Warren.
